TITLE:- A LEADER IS AS GREAT AS HIS APPOINTMENT.

TUESDAY,JULY 3, 2018.
“Leadership is the challenge to be something more than average.”-Jim Rohn. These month I want us to reflect on leadership. Leadership is important because without a leader, nothing changes, nothing grows, nothing great happens, and success becomes an illusion.

One of the challenges of a leader is the kind of people he or she finds to work with. You can predict how successful a leader will be, based on his/her appointment.The appointment of the right person makes all the difference.

The whole verse in Genesis 41 speaks about king Pharaoh’s dream and making Joseph the prisoner, second in command to help manage his economy. There are many lessons we can learn there but my focus will be on why should the king appoint Joseph.

The success of a leader depends on who works for and/or with them. Joseph was not an Egyptian, but he was appointed. He is a prisoner but he make Egypt grow in wealth even in scarcity. He is a convert alleged of rape, and that alone can make the king lose trust in him.

It’s not enough that he interpreted the dream that tormented the king all night. It’s not enough that he provided solution to the king on how the famine can be solved not by farming during that drought but in the times of abundance.

The best decision the king did was to appoint Joseph to be in charge of affairs and indeed Joseph delivered to expectation. He made the king exceeding rich.

To be a great leader, you need to be careful about the appointments you make. Sometimes you NEED TO OVER LOOK friends and acquaintances because leadership is about who can deliver results.

This is the challenge Ghana is having as far as leadership in every aspect is concern. Most Leaders appoint sycophants.They appoint those they can manipulate.Those who they know. Remember the first time the king saw Joseph was when he interpreted his dream. HIS BACKGROUND AND TRIBE DID NOT MATTER, what matters is how good can he deliver the needed results.
Even in the church these days people are appointed based how cool he or she is with the leader. It’s a shame. No wonder the churches are becoming more like the jungle, thus “me first at all cost.” No one to sacrifice.
Please leaders be careful about your appointment because the consequences are far reaching. Don’t just appoint people because they are free with you. Choose people who will deliver results.

Bias said and I quote,”Cherish wisdom as a means of travelling from youth to old age, for it is more lasting than any other possession.” Here are more of what we can do as youth to enjoy retirement in peace.
—-> EXERCISE YOUR INTELLIGENCE REGULARLY.

There are two kinds of old people, the first one is the one whose words can’t stimulates quality ideas for the young to learn. The second group are those whose words are full of wonderful ideas that can be of great use to the youth. I have come to understand that this two groups of old people’s thoughts were accumulated based on how they accept knowledge while there were growing up. To us the youth willing to enjoy a wonderful retirement, lets have an intellectual stimulation exercise regularly.

To do that:-

1. Make time to read constantly.

2. Attain seminar and conference more.

3. Listen to great minds on tape or video.

4. Associate with intelligent people.

5. Make time to think constantly.
This points will enable us become a great influence even in retirement. This is what I love and I’m challenged to apply these steps constantly.

Next point:-

—-> EARN A GOOD NAME.

The Bible says, A GOOD NAME IS BETTER THAN GREAT RICHES. This is very true and I have found people whose name open doors for themselves and people associated with them. Listen young man and woman, lets make it a point to earn a good name. Let your name carry weight based on certain values and principles. Thus why I love this simple quote, “WHAT IS IN A NAME?” There are people who have money but people are not willing to do business or even associate with them. A good name will not die. A good name will ring with joy in the mind of people. As young people, lets cultivate the habit of building a good name. I WANT MY NAME TO CARRY A GREAT MESSAGE TO OTHERS THAT GOD IS GOOD EVEN TO PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF. What about you?

FRIDAY, MAY 18, 2018.

Anthony Robbins said,”If we don’t see a failure as a challenge to modify our approach, but rather as a problem with ourselves, as a personality defect, we will immediately feel overwhelmed.” To this I can say that this points should become the remedial steps for us to act on. Now here are two more points for reflection.

—> WATCH WHAT YOU EAT AND DRINK.
Most nutritionist will tell you that Ghanaians in urban areas don’t eat right. Most of the food people are eating now is named fast-food. Unfortunately this are junk foods. This is for us the youth wishing to enjoy old age, eating junk food will kill you sooner or later. Most of us are found of eating late into the night, which is wrong practice. Today its consequences will not be felt but year after, metabolism will become an issue. Let us watch what we eat and drink. Unfortunately of us our society has produced plenty alcohol beverages and many of us are taking it with no caution. Alcohol has destroyed many, what make you think you will be spared. For us to enjoy our old age, let us watch our foods and drinks.

—> EXERCISE YOUR BODY REGULARLY.
This is becoming a challenge to many people who God has blessed with good jobs. I once heard Pastor Mensa Otabil saying, that one of his regrets is that, he didn’t start exercising at his younger age. Let us begin with regular exercising of the body. I have plan for that and every weekend I go for a jog. One of the quotes I have come across says that, “the body you have today will be the same body you will use in the future. Take care of it today so that it will take care of you tomorrow.” We need to find ways of exercising our bodies regularly. Let us not wait till its become too late.

I begin with a quote from George Carlin said,”Most people work just hard enough not to get fired and get paid just enough money not to quit.”

Now lets read and reflect on two more points based the title.

—> PRACTICE SAVING AND INVESTMENT.

After reading the many savings and investment books I have come to understand the clear difference between the poor and the rich. The rich sees money as a seed while the poor have no idea in the compound interest–power of money. One of the books that taught me how to pay myself first is the book entitled, “the richest man in Babylon.” -by George S. Clason. We the youth are found of buying liabilities instead of assets. For us to enjoy our old age we need to cultivate the habit of savings and investment. There are several around if you are not sure of any find an investor and ask him or her questions. Another point is, buy a piece of land at any place today and the price in five years will blow your mind. You can also contact me so I can share my little experience with you.

—> ADD VALUE TO YOURSELF.

There is joy in a valued added life. We need to add value to ourselves now that there is energy and the zeal for life. Everyday you need to add value to your life. I have always been telling myself that, if I lived a month the same way I lived its previous month, I have wasted the days in that month. Someone will ask how can you add value to yourself. Few tips.

1. By associating with visionaries and goal chasers.

2. By reading constantly.

3. By listening to inspirational speakers.

4. By accepting the fact that you are not a failure until you begin to blame others.

5. By identifying your potential and working hard to unleash it to the world.

Those who add value to themselves will constantly move forward and their old age will be filled with joy and fulfillment.

Remember, The best way to enjoy old age is to begin preparing for it today.

Good morning and welcome to blessed day, a day for greatness that starts from the mind. Yesterday I shared two of the many retired personnel story to begin with. The point is, because most retired people loss interest in life there is an organization called pensioners association in the Lower Manya Municipality, to help revive their interest and to support each other.

Now to we the youth, here are two of the many ways we can start preparing for our RETIREMENT, thus if Jesus didn’t return in his glory soon.

—>DO WHAT YOU LOVE or FOLLOW YOUR PASSION. Most of us are only chasing money, but the truth is money is the reward for EXCELLENCE. Doing what you love or what you are good at will bring you fulfillment. Following your passion will make you become an asset to generation that even in your retirement, people will be willing to have more of you. True success comes from doing what you love. All the blessed and happy people in life don’t follow money, they follow what they love and many things including money comes their way. For you to enjoy your old age, make sure you follow your passion.

—> INVEST IN PEOPLE.

This is my goal in life. I want my name to be written in the success stories of many people. For you to enjoy your old age and retirement smoothly, make it a point to help people achieve their goals and dreams. God is the God of greatness and when ever you help others to become better your life will change for good. Don’t just help your family, be of help to people who are not even closer to your tribe and your old age will be a blessing. Remember when you invest in people your children and grandchildren will reap your investment even when you are not around. Ask Jonathan, the son of King Saul about it.

Hallelujah to Jehovah Adonai. I made a promise that this month we will be reflecting on work, work ethics, and the worker. I believe this insights will be much of a blessing to everyone who will make the time to read.
If Jesus did not return in His glory soon, then many will be retiring from active service. Every year many people go on retirement but unfortunately many wish they stay a little longer than the exact year of retirement.

Many young men and women are not thinking about their years after RETIREMENT, most people think the best way to prepare for retirement is when you are on retirement or five years to retirement. I have a lot of years to be in active service but when I see what many returnees are going through I don’t want to be in the rat race.

In 2014, I met a man in New-Somanya, (name withheld). A year to his retirement he was not paid his salary till he retired. When he showed me his project, savings and investment, I was happy. When I spoke to him he was happy because he had make provisions that will make him enjoy his retirement years in peace and stress free. I have learned a lot from him. I always go to him, to help me understand life and how I can make my life useful to society.

In October 2017, a met an old man who is in his late 70s. He was broke and homeless in Accra. I spoke with him for 30 minutes and the lesson I learnt is worth a book to be written.

He retired with more savings and a wonderful house. He said, he told himself that he will die before 66 years so he sold the house and sent his children out. He used the money on drinks and women. Now he had nothing except his cloth. The wonderful thing is, he is now 78 and still alive

The best way to enjoy your retirement is to start preparing for it now.

Fred Allen said,”Treat employees like partners, and they act like partners.” Zig Ziglar said,”Research indicates that workers have three prime needs: Interesting work, recognition for doing a good job, and being let in on things that are going on in the company.” Today I continue with more on what a boss or employer will wish to echo into the minds of his employees.

—> YOU REAP THE OUTCOME OF WHATEVER YOU BRING ON BOARD. Most employees think that the company or organization should take care of their needs whether the work diligently or not. The point is, the company or organization can only take care of you when you are also taking care of it. There are workers who are not bringing idea or business deals to the company,but they want to be paid more. As crops needs to be cultivated so are ideas and business deals. You need to invest first into the company before that company can be of help to you.
—> OUR COMPANY DOES NOT MANUFACTURE MONEY. Every worker wanted to be paid more. Our wants are more than the company can provide. This has caused most employees to become unproductive. They can go around saying, “how much are they paying me?” The point is company cannot pay more that it produces. The company is meant for business and not father Christmas. In business there are a lot of things to be factored into play. The point is some people are even paid more than their input. My point is, your output which is based on your input will determine your income. Remember, garbage in garbage out.

Wonderful morning and a great month. Let me first apologize for breaking off for 18 days. Really sorry, pressure beyond my control made it so, please forgive me.

For this month I will be dealing with workers, work ethics, employers and work in general.

Henry Ford said,”There is joy in work. There is no happiness except in the realization that we have accomplished something.” From Henry Ford we can say that true work comes with achievement or accomplishment.

Now here are two out of the many things your employer wish to tell you every minute.

—>WHEN YOU LIE TO ME, YOU EARN MY DISTRUST.
Most of us think that the best way to have a excuse is to lie to the boss. The wonderful thing is, lies don’t stay forever, it will come out and you will lose the trust of your boss. Most of us also think that bosses are insensitive but ask yourself, are you doing the right thing? Remember, bosses are human, they have their fears and insecurities. When your employer losses trust in you, just know that whatever you tell him or her will just be a story line.

—>WILL YOU WORK AS IF THE COMPANY BELONGS TO YOU? Employers are always looking for the next person to fit into their position when he or she is not around. This is the reason why bosses hate lousy and unproductive workers. The idea of a business is to expand and open territories. If you want to be in the good books of your boss, just work as if the company or organization belongs to you. I’m not blowing my horn but anyone who knows how I work will accept the fact that, I think of “EXCELLENCE or NOTHING.” The wonderful thing is those who work with excellence set up their own business or enterprises and they become great.

Good morning and how are you doing? John Maxwell said,”A great leader’s courage to fulfill his vision comes from PASSION, not POSITION.” I continue with more insights shared by Kind David.

He said,

–>RISK YOUR LIFE FOR THOSE YOU SHEPHERD. This is core mandate of leadership. He said, many people love the position but they forget that A POSITION IS A POSITION DEMANDS. When people don’t see you risking your life for them, they stop following. King David said, I risked my life for the sheeps and that attitude made me a great leader when I became a warrior. He said,”you need to stand for all those you lead, its only then that your follower will accept you”
–>BE WILLING TO TAKE ON THE ODDS. The odds can be challenging he said. The lion and the bear were odds. Goliath was an odd tormenting Israel. Your greatness as a person depends on how willing you are taking on the odds. As he spoke I thought of how the late Mohammed Ali become a great boxer. He took great boxers of his generation and through that he became a great boxer. The same applies to Professor Azuma Nelson. In his autobiography, time with the professor gives insight on how success comes after taking on the odds. King David said, take on the odds and never give up. Success is just one step ahead.
